My Job Interview II

On Wednesday, I went for a job interview of sorts. The last one was through my father's recommendation and now this one is my mother's. And just as before, they didn't tell me what job I was going for. The only difference this time is that the company is one of my Mum's partners, so she accompanied me there and dropped me off for the interview while she went for her meeting with the CO of the company.

The person tending me was a guy in his 30s simply known as Lim. He was part of the company's programming team and he started telling me about the new system they were developing. I could feel my hair stand as he went on to describe the technicalities and specifications of their current project, which I was gonna be part of, even though I had no absolutely idea what he was talking about. In my mind, I just thought, "Argh. Another mis-matched job because my parents thought I was some ace programmer." But just then, my Mum and saved the day by clarfying with Lim that I was not their new programmer boy. I was kinda relived, but then, so what was I here for? Lim proceeded to try and explain to me that they were an MLM (multi-level marketing?) company, but the boss arrived, and so the meeting began. For some reason, a 'small fry' such as myself I was included.

I wasn't sure what was going on as I just sat there, with the various people talking about their marketing plans for their products. I saw a side of my Mum that I never witnessed when we were at home. She spoke firmly and delivered her ideas confidently such that it was well-received by everyone.

After their discussion was over, the boss, known as Tay, turned his attention to me and greeted me. (Looks like I was part of the meeting agenda after all.) Up to this point, I still had no idea what my job was. According to Tay, it sounds like I have become part of their MLM company. Again, my hair stood on ends when he said that he will 'seek my opinion on their marketing plans during next Monday's meeting'. (Was this some sort of test? I am probably the lowest life form in their company and he seeks my opinion on a business matter? Or was it another case of mistaken identity?)

And that was it. I was to return again for their Monday meeting. And I still had no idea what job I was going for.

My Mum gave me a ride to AMK after the meeting. In the car, I tried asking her what exactly I was working. The answers she gave me didn't make any sense ("You're just there to learn how to maintain our webpages ." Considering what I've just been through, it doesn't add up.) Oh, well. Outside of the meeting room, my Mum reverted back to 'clueless housewife' mode again.

I knew it. I should've just gone for those down-to-earth 8-to-5 office jobs where I spend hours in front of the computer doing routine and mechanical tasks and collect my pay at the end of every month without much complications.
